We’re delighted to announce the closed beta will begin for all Big Bang Theorists (backers that pledged £75 or more) on Greetings once again to our loyal backers! I’m happy to be bringing you the most important dev diary yet. You wouldn’t necessarily have to do it for every mission, but for special missions (rescue/kidnap Celestina from the palace, boarding the Requital for a confrontation with Blythe, that sort of thing) at least, as a parallel to the special missions in SHMUP (Dallick’s station, chasing Tybold’s battleship, Huntress fight).Originally published at: Dev Diary - Issue #7 “Wrist Deep in Pandora’s Box” I appreciate it’s more work (probably by a lot) than the current setup, but it’s also something I’ve been seeing in games since the 90’s. Going through a series of corridors and rooms to get to Tybold’s throne room would be a lot more interesting than playing “whackamole” (not that it isn’t somewhat fun already, but I feel like there’s a hard cap on how fun it can be in its current form). On the grid combat section, this is one of the weaker points in the game and I think it would be more interesting if instead of a grid that enemies show up in random locations, you have a map you have to move your units through to get to the objective. ![]() It would be a way to remain somewhat engaged with the game without having to do a full playthrough so you haven’t gone completely rusty by the time new content comes out. Not that giving the Devs ideas they might not already have is a bad thing.īut then I’m coming at this from the opposite side - I’m a casual and would actually like a “practice mode” so I can get better at that portion of the game (and because at the moment you have one save per run-through you can’t just go back and redo missions). Given that all of the missions to date have been 1 star, it might be premature to go too far into how to make the SHMUP sections harder - we don’t know yet whether 2 or 3 star missions are just “more hp and more damage” or have materially different AI patterns (maybe people in the beta tests can say more, but going purely off what’s released it’s difficult to say as everything but the boss fights are intended to be the lowest difficulty setting). ![]()
